Saraswati Puja: Knowledge and Wisdom
Goddess Saraswati: The Divine Teacher
Goddess Saraswati, the consort of Lord Brahma, sits gracefully on a white lotus wearing white garments, holding a veena (musical instrument), a book (the Vedas), a mala (rosary), and a water pot (kamandalu). She represents Vidya (knowledge), Kala (arts), and Vak (speech). Students, scholars, musicians, writers, and anyone pursuing knowledge worship her for intellectual growth and creative inspiration.
When to Perform Saraswati Puja
The most auspicious day is Vasant Panchami (Shukla Panchami of Magha month, usually January-February), which marks the beginning of spring. This day is dedicated entirely to Saraswati. Navratri's fifth day is also celebrated as Saraswati Puja in some regions. Check the panchang for exact dates and auspicious muhurat timings.

Saraswati Puja Vidhi
1. Preparation: Wear white or yellow clothes. Place books, instruments, or work tools near the altar — these will be blessed by the goddess.
2. Invocation: Place the idol on a white cloth. Offer sandalwood paste, white flowers, and akshat. Chant Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah.
3. Book Worship: Place your most important books before the goddess. Students often place their textbooks here. This is called Pustaka Puja.
4. Mantra Chanting: Recite the Saraswati Vandana: Ya Kundendu Tushara Hara Dhavala, Ya Shubhra Vastravrita. Chant the beej mantra Aim 108 times.
5. Akshar Abhyasam: Young children write their first letters during this puja — a tradition called Vidyarambham in South India. This is an auspicious start to education.
6. Aarti: Perform aarti and distribute white sweets as prasad.
