Vastu Puja: Purifying Home Energy
Understanding Vastu Shastra
Vastu Shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture and spatial arrangement, dating back over 5,000 years to the Sthapatya Veda. It governs the balance of five elements — Earth (Prithvi), Water (Jal), Fire (Agni), Air (Vayu), and Space (Akash) — within a built structure. When these elements are harmonized, the occupants experience health, wealth, and happiness. When imbalanced, Vastu doshas arise, causing obstacles and negativity.
Signs You May Need Vastu Puja
- Persistent financial difficulties after moving to a new place
- Frequent illness among family members
- Constant arguments and disharmony at home
- Disturbed sleep or recurring nightmares
- Stagnation in career despite effort
- General feeling of heaviness or negativity in the home
When to Perform Vastu Puja
Vastu Puja is traditionally performed during Griha Pravesh, but it can be done anytime you sense imbalance. Check the panchang for an auspicious muhurat. Shukla Paksha tithis on Thursdays or Mondays are generally favorable. Your kundali can reveal if planetary positions are amplifying Vastu issues.
Vastu Puja Vidhi
1. Vastu Purush Worship: Vastu Purush is the deity presiding over the dwelling. He lies face down with his head in the northeast and feet in the southwest. The puja begins by invoking him in the center of the home (Brahmasthan).
2. Directional Deities: Each direction has a ruling deity — Indra (East), Agni (Southeast), Yama (South), Nairutya (Southwest), Varuna (West), Vayu (Northwest), Kubera (North), and Ishanya (Northeast). Each is worshipped with specific offerings.
3. Navagraha Puja: The nine planets are worshipped to neutralize astrological influences on the property.
4. Havan: A sacred fire ritual with specific Vastu Shanti mantras purifies the atmosphere and removes negative energies.
5. Kalash Sthapana: Energized kalash are placed in key directions to anchor positive energy.
