Purohit ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address, name, phone number, and profile information when you create an account
• Booking Data: Details of puja bookings, preferred dates, ceremonies, and special requests
• Birth Details: Date, time, and place of birth if you use the kundali (horoscope) feature
• Location: City or area when searching for purohits near you
• Communications: Messages you send through WhatsApp or our platform to contact purohits
• Purohits' puja photos and dakshina: photos a purohit adds to their page and the dakshina listed there are public on that page. Location and camera details are removed from a photo when it is uploaded. Anyone shown in a photo can ask us to remove it (“Report this photo” under the photo, or WhatsApp) and we delete it. When a purohit deletes their account, the page comes down at once and the photos are deleted after 30 days

Information Collected Automatically

• Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
• Usage Data: Features used, pages viewed, time spent in app
• Log Data: IP address, the browser's description of itself (browser, phone or computer type) and its language setting, the website or campaign that linked you to us (its name only), access times

How We Use Your Information

• Provide daily panchang, muhurat, and kundali information
• Connect you with purohits for puja bookings
• Send you relevant notifications (daily panchang alerts, booking updates)
• Personalize your experience based on your preferences and location
• Improve our services and develop new features
• Ensure security and prevent misuse

Cards and Biodatas You Make

• Your card is made on your own device. The names, addresses, phone numbers and photos you put on it are not sent to us.
• Your draft is saved in your browser on your device so you can come back to it. Clearing your browser's data deletes it.
• To fill in a card's date line, your device sends us the ceremony's date, time and city. We use them only to work out the line, and do not keep them.
• We keep a record of how the card pages are used: for example that a card was made, downloaded or paid for, and in which language and design. With it we note your browser and its language setting, the website or campaign that linked you to us, and your internet address. A random number saved in your browser lets us see when the same browser comes back. We never note what is on the card.

Payments

• If you buy a card, you pay in a window run by Razorpay Software Private Limited. Your card, UPI and bank details go to Razorpay, not to us, and we never see or store them. Razorpay's own privacy policy covers what you give them.
• We keep a record of each payment: the mobile number you gave at checkout, the card type, the price, the date, whether it went through, and the references our payment company gives us. We use the number only for this payment: to find it if you ask for help, and for our records.

Marriage Profiles

If you make a profile on Vivah by Purohit, our matrimony service (purohit.app/matrimony), for yourself or for a relative:

• What a profile holds: the details you enter - name and surname, groom or bride, date, time and place of birth, height, marital status, languages, religion and community, gotra, diet, education, work, income band, where the person lives, the horoscope details (rashi, nakshatra, pada, Manglik), what you write about the person and their relatives, links to the person's LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook or X if you add them, photos and partner preferences. We also keep the interests sent and answered, blocks, and reports.
• While you make it: what you type and the photos you choose stay in your browser on your device until you publish, so a refresh or the Back button does not lose them. Both are cleared when you publish, start again or sign out. The typing is also cleared when you close the tab; photos left behind that way are deleted from your device when you next open the profile maker a day or more later. The Mangal dosha (Manglik) answer is worked out from the date, time and place of birth; if you tap “Looks wrong?”, we note it on the profile and check it.
• Notifications: if you turn them on from Vivah, your browser's notification address is saved with your account and used only for news about your matches (and, as elsewhere on Purohit.app, updates on requests you make). You can switch them off at any time in your browser's settings for purohit.app.
• Consent of the person described: a profile made for someone else is shown only after that person confirms it from their own phone number. From then on they can pause or delete it themselves. We keep a record of when it was confirmed.
• Who sees what: members with a live profile of their own see the profiles of the other gender. The surname, the phone number and any social media links you added are shown only when both sides accept an interest, and we keep a list of who has been shown your number. Before that, others see only which apps were added; the person a profile was made for sees its links when they open their confirm link, and once they confirm, only they can add or change them. We keep only the account name for each platform and build the link ourselves; we do not open or check those accounts. Photos are shown as the profile's owner chooses. The date, time and place of birth are never shown to anyone else; the age is. Someone who opens a profile link without a profile of their own sees a short card with no name or photo.
• Safety checks: before a profile is saved we check what you write for phone numbers, links, dowry and abuse. We keep a fingerprint of each photo so the same photo cannot be used on another account, we use the date and place of birth so that a block or a hold also covers the same person on a new account, and we record the internet address a profile was made from. If a birth date is refused as under age, we keep it with the first name for 180 days, so the same attempt cannot simply be repeated.
• Photos are stored privately, never on a public address, and open only through links that expire within the hour. Location and camera details are removed when a photo is uploaded.
• Analytics: once you go past the front page and the help page of Vivah by Purohit - making a profile, seeing profiles, interests, your own profile - nothing is sent to Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel for the rest of that visit. We count how those pages are used ourselves, without names or profile codes; when you are signed in, the steps of making a profile you reached are noted against your account for 30 days, so we can help if you get stuck, and then only the counts remain. Those two pages describe the service and show nobody's details, and are measured like the rest of the site.
• Deleting: a deleted profile is taken down at once. Its details and photos are erased after 30 days, or after 180 days if a report or complaint involved it, as the law requires. Reports and complaints, and our record of when profiles were made, confirmed, matched or deleted and of whose number was shown to whom, are kept for two years. Asking to delete your account pauses its profiles for good.
• A profile made of you: anyone can ask us to remove a profile that uses their details or photo without their consent, at purohit.app/matrimony/remove, without having a profile.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices. We use:

• Firebase Authentication for secure account management
• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Secure cloud infrastructure with access controls
• Regular security reviews

Analytics and Advertising

We use third-party analytics and advertising tools to understand how our services are used and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns:

• Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymised usage data such as pages visited, session duration, and device information. Google may use cookies to collect this data. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Meta (Facebook) Pixel: We use the Meta Pixel on our website to measure ad performance, build audiences for ad targeting, and track conversions. The pixel collects data such as pages visited, actions taken, and device information. This data is shared with Meta Platforms, Inc. and is subject to Meta's Privacy Policy. Pages of our website opened inside the Purohit app do not load the pixel.
• Facebook SDK: Versions of our mobile app before 1.0.12 used the Facebook SDK to record app events (such as app installs and key actions) for advertising measurement. From version 1.0.12 the app no longer uses it and sends no app events to Meta. For an older version, you can control ad tracking in your device settings or your Facebook ad preferences.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:

• Essential cookies: Required for the website to function properly
• Analytics cookies: Used by Google Analytics to understand usage patterns
• Advertising cookies: Used by Meta Pixel to measure ad effectiveness and deliver relevant ads
• Browser storage: Used to keep your card drafts on your device, and a random number that tells us when the same browser comes back to our tools and card pages

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect website functionality.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Purohits: Your booking details and contact information are shared with purohits you choose to connect with
• Service Providers: Third parties that help us operate our services (Firebase, cloud hosting, analytics)
• Payment company: Razorpay receives your payment details directly, and the mobile number you give at checkout
• App updates: from version 1.0.12, our mobile app receives updates to its code through Shorebird (shorebird.dev). When the app checks for an update, Shorebird receives your device's IP address and an anonymous id for that installation of the app
• Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and associated data
• Opt-out of marketing communications and push notifications

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, even if you delete your account.

Children's Privacy

Purohit is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
