Diwali 2027 Date: Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, Five-Day Calendar
Diwali 2027 falls on Friday, 29 October 2027 - Lakshmi Puja day. The five-day festival runs from Dhanteras on Wednesday, 27 October to Bhai Dooj on Sunday, 31 October 2027. This post gives the verified day-by-day calendar; detailed puja muhurat timings (pradosh kaal, Lakshmi Puja muhurat) are finalised by the panchang closer to the festival, and we will update this page with them. For what to do on each day, our Lakshmi Puja vidhi and samagri guide covers the main evening's puja in full.

A Friday Diwali gives 2027 a natural long weekend - Lakshmi Puja on Friday evening, Govardhan Puja on Saturday and Bhai Dooj on Sunday - which makes it an easy year for travel to your home town, and a busy one for purohit bookings.
What happens on each day
- Dhanteras (27 Oct) - the day for new purchases (gold, silver, utensils) and the evening Yamadeep lamp. Dhanvantari, the divine physician, is honoured.
- Narak Chaturdashi (28 Oct) - the early-morning abhyanga snan (oil bath before sunrise) commemorates Krishna's victory over Narakasura; in South India this is the main Deepavali day.
- Lakshmi Puja (29 Oct) - the principal evening: Lakshmi, Ganesha and Kubera are worshipped after sunset during pradosh kaal. Homes are lit, and the puja is done in the fixed muhurat - timings will be added here when the panchang finalises them.
- Govardhan Puja (30 Oct) - the Annakut offering commemorating Krishna lifting Govardhan hill; in some communities this is also the Vishwakarma day for tools and vehicles.
- Bhai Dooj (31 Oct) - sisters pray for their brothers' long life; the festival's family close.
Booking a purohit for Lakshmi Puja 2027
Lakshmi Puja evening is the single most heavily booked purohit slot of the year - every household wants the same two-hour pradosh window on the same evening. If you want a purohit-led puja at home on 29 October 2027, book well in advance; many purohits close their Diwali evening calendar weeks early. A home Lakshmi Puja takes about an hour; see the vidhi and samagri guide for what to prepare, and our cost guide for typical dakshina.
