2027 Hindu Wedding Muhurat in Perth: Dates in Perth Time
The muhurat dates your parents send from India are worked out for India, in Indian time. In Perth they can be hours out, and now and then a whole day. Below are Perth's own 2027 wedding muhurat dates, in Perth time, month by month, so the list you show the elders is right for where the wedding is. After the tables: what a Hindu wedding in Western Australia needs that one in India does not, and how to talk to a purohit about your date.
Why an Indian muhurat list is not right for Perth
A muhurat is a stretch of time, and two things move it when you leave India.
The clock. Perth runs on Western Australian time, UTC+8, two and a half hours ahead of India. It keeps that clock all year: Western Australia has no daylight saving (voters turned it down again in 2009). Sydney and Melbourne do move their clocks in summer, so a list made for the east coast is not Perth's either.
The sunrise. The Hindu day begins at sunrise. Every part of a muhurat is counted from the sunrise and the sky where the wedding is: the tithi and nakshatra of the day, the lagna the purohit fixes, and in South Indian homes the rahu kalam to avoid. Perth's sunrise is not Delhi's, so you cannot take an Indian time and add two and a half hours. Purohits who serve people abroad say the same: use the panchang of the city you are in, not India's.
Here is what that does to real dates in 2027:
- 30 January 2027. An Indian list puts a window under 30 January. It really runs from 3:57 AM to 7:09 AM on 31 January, India time, before India's sunrise, so India counts it in the 30th. In Perth the same stretch starts at 6:27 AM on 31 January, after Perth's sunrise, so it belongs to the 31st. Perth's list has nothing on 30 January.
- 15 January 2027. India's window starts at 7:15 AM, which is 9:45 AM in Perth. Perth's own window that day starts at 5:25 AM, at Perth's sunrise. Adding two and a half hours would have cost you more than four hours of the day.
Across 2027, five dates are in Perth's list and not India's: 23 February, 11 March, 20 and 22 April, and 17 November. Five Indian dates are not in Perth's: 30 January, 9 and 14 February, 20 June and 20 November. Each is a window near sunrise that falls before sunrise in one city and after it in the other.
How to read the tables
Every time below is Perth time. The date in the first column is the Hindu day, which runs from one sunrise to the next. So a window that starts after midnight sits under the evening before, with its own calendar date written first: in the 10 February row, "11 Feb, 5:36 AM to 5:50 AM" is the early morning of 11 February. A window that ends after midnight carries the date it ends on: "10:20 AM to 5:29 AM, 20 Jan".
Each window is when the nakshatra and the other checks all hold (the tithi is shown, not used to filter). Inside it your purohit fixes the lagna: the exact moment for the pheras or the thaali, the muhurtham, as South Indian homes say.
The rules are the ones in our India wedding muhurat list, applied to Perth's own sky: one of the wedding nakshatras (Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati), no combust (asta) Venus or Jupiter, no Chaturmas, Kharmas or Pitru Paksha, and no inauspicious yoga or karana.

The pauses: when there are no wedding dates
Perth's 2027 list has three gaps, the same three as India's:
- Mid-March to mid-April: the Sun is in Meena, the year's second Kharmas.
- End of June to early November: in early July Venus is too close to the Sun (combust, or asta) on the days that would otherwise qualify. From mid-July it is Chaturmas, the four months of Vishnu's sleep, which end at Dev Uthani Ekadashi.
- Mid-December to mid-January: Kharmas (Dhanurmas in Karnataka and Andhra, Margazhi in Tamil homes), the month the Sun spends in Dhanu.
These gaps follow the North Indian calendar, like our India list. South Indian calendars do not close for the whole of Chaturmas: Telugu panchangs list wedding muhurtams in Shravana, and Tamil calendars in Aavani. Tamil homes avoid Aadi, Purattasi and Margazhi instead. If your wedding follows a Telugu, Kannada or Tamil panchang, ask your purohit for its own dates. And if a venue only has a date in one of these gaps, talk to him before you pay the deposit.
Festival dates in Perth, 2027

What a wedding in Perth needs that one in India does not
A celebrant for the legal marriage. In Australia a marriage is legal only when it is conducted by an authorised celebrant or an authorised minister of religion. The Western Australian government's own pages set out what that means:
- You lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with your celebrant at least one calendar month before the wedding. If you are overseas you may be able to post or email it, with your signatures witnessed by a qualified person.
- Two witnesses over 18 must be there; the Registry does not supply them.
- The celebrant must be present in person. A marriage cannot be done by video link or by proxy.
- After the wedding the celebrant has 14 days to send the papers for registration. The certificate signed on the day is a keepsake; the legal certificate is applied for once the marriage is registered.
A Hindu priest can be that celebrant. The Hindu Council of Australia is a recognised denomination under Australia's Marriage Act, so a priest it nominates who is registered as a minister of religion can marry people anywhere in the country. If the purohit doing your vivah is not authorised, book a celebrant as well. Either way, plan the NOIM a month ahead: the muhurat is for the rite, and the paperwork has its own clock.
The legal part need not be at the muhurat. Celebrants in Australia say their short legal ceremony can come straight after the vivah at the same venue, before it, or on another day.
A venue that allows the fire. The homam is the centre of the wedding: the pheras and the saptapadi go round the sacred fire, and the laja homa, puffed rice offered into it, is done there. Many venues in Australia will not allow an open fire, so ask before you book and get the yes in writing. Some purohits who do weddings in Australia ask to see it, and ask you to sign a form taking responsibility for the havan. Where no fire is allowed, some purohits invoke Agni in a lamp instead; ask yours what he will do.
Outdoors, there is one more rule. On a Total Fire Ban day, any fire in the open air is against the law where the ban is declared, Perth suburbs included. A patio, a pergola or any shelter open on a side counts as open air. Bans are announced the afternoon before or on the day, so a garden mandap needs an indoor plan. Check emergency.wa.gov.au after 4 PM the day before, for the venue's own area.
What happens at the muhurat
The window is the frame. The purohit fixes the moment inside it, and what that moment is depends on your tradition. Find yours:
- North Indian (Hindi-speaking, Punjabi): after the kanyadaan, the havan and panigrahan (taking the bride's hand), the couple walk the pheras round the fire. The saptapadi, the seven steps, is the heart of it; sindoor and the mangalsutra follow.
- Gujarati: in the hasta milap the purohit knots the groom's shawl to the bride's saree and joins their hands. Many Gujarati weddings walk four mangal pheras round the fire, not seven.
- Marathi: the antarpat, a cloth, is held between the bride and groom while the mangalashtaka verses are sung. At the closing "Savadhan" it comes down at the muhurta, and everyone showers akshata.
- Bengali: the lagna comes from the Bengali panjika, and many weddings are in the evening (the godhuli lagna, at dusk, is the earliest). Sampradan, saat paak (the bride carried seven times round the groom), shubho drishti (the first look), then the yagna and sindoor.
- Tamil: the muhurtham is thaali kattu, the groom tying the thaali, with the nadaswaram playing and guests showering akshata. Saptapadi, the ammi stone and the metti follow.
- Telugu: at the sumuhurtham the couple place jeelakarra bellam, a paste of cumin and jaggery, on each other's heads. A curtain between them is lowered for the moment.
- Kannada: the dhare (dhareherdu), the bride's parents pouring water over the couple's joined hands, is the Kannada kanyadaan; tying the thaali makes the marriage. Invitation cards print the muhurtha with its lagna: "shubha simha lagnadalli", in the auspicious simha lagna.
- Malayali: thalikettu, the groom tying the thali on the wedding stage, is the most important rite and the one the muhurtham is fixed for; the exchange of garlands follows. The ceremony is simpler than in most of India.
Tell the purohit early which of these your wedding follows. He picks the lagna in Perth time inside the window and reads it in his own tradition: a North Indian purohit from his panchang, a Bengali purohit from his panjika, and a Tamil, Telugu or Kannada purohit from his panchangam, keeping clear of rahu kalam as well.
Talking to a purohit about your date
Before any of this, the date has to suit the two of you as well as the calendar. The kundali matching page gives you guna milan and porutham in a few minutes, and how marriage dates are fixed explains how a purohit goes from the matched kundalis to the lagna.
For the muhurat and the planning, a phone call is enough: the purohit needs both birth details, the place of the wedding and your shortlist of dates. Ask for a call with a purohit who speaks your language; you agree the dakshina with him between yourselves. If you want a purohit at the wedding, tell us what you need: write that it is a wedding in Perth, the date, and your tradition. Purohits will reach out on call or WhatsApp.
How we verify: dates and muhurat timings in our guides are cross-checked against the panchang before publishing, and practical details - samagri, durations, dakshina ranges - reflect real bookings on Purohit.app. Traditions vary by community; your purohit's guidance prevails.
