Naming Ceremony Invitation Card
Namakaran, barasala or cradle ceremony: pick the words, we fill in the baby's birth star and the date line, you send it on WhatsApp.
Free forever: the image for WhatsApp and the PDF for printing, with a small purohit.app line at the foot. To remove the line, pay a small fee of ₹10: it helps us keep Purohit.app running.

1. Card language
For a Telugu barasala, choose English and type "Barasala" as the name of the ceremony. Telugu wording comes once a Telugu reader has checked it.
2. Choose a design
3. Who is inviting?
This changes the words on the card, and whose names it is signed with.
4. Fill the details
The baby
It decides the words on the card.
Birth details, for the birth star
Optional. We use them to print the birth star (nakshatra) and rashi on the card. The birth time is never printed.
As on the hospital record. It is not printed.
Add the date and time of birth, and we print the birth star.
The ceremony
Enter the date, the muhurat time and the city: we work out the date line for you. On a naming card the line leaves out the ceremony's own nakshatra and lagna, so the only star on the card is the baby's.
Printed under the title. Type "Barasala" or "Barse" here and it prints on the English card.
Usually the 11th or 12th day after birth, or the day your purohit fixed.
The time your purohit gave you.
Not printed. It works out the date line. For a ceremony outside India, type the line yourself.
For a home ceremony, the house address is enough.
Functions print in date and time order.
Names of those inviting
Top and bottom of the card
One name per line. For someone who has passed away, write "Late" before the name.
Photo
Many parents use the baby's hands or feet. The photo shows on the Palna and Chandra designs; the others have no place for one, and it comes back when you choose Palna or Chandra.
The photo stays on this phone. It is never uploaded.
How the birth star gets on the card
Tell us the date and time of birth. If the baby was born outside India, choose the country too, so we read the time on its clock.
The birth star (nakshatra) is where the moon was at that moment, and the rashi is the sign it was in. The same calculation gives the traditional first letter of the name - our baby names page lists names for every letter.
Your purohit has the final word. The line is printed in your card's language, and you can leave it off the card with one choice.

Questions people ask
What should a naming ceremony invitation say?
Most cards follow the same order: a short prayer line at the top, the name of the ceremony, the baby's name (or a line saying it will be announced at the ceremony), who is inviting, the date and time, the address and the meal. Many South Indian cards also print a date line with the samvatsara, month and tithi. The maker fills that line for your date and time, and you can change every word.
Can the grandparents send the invitation?
Yes. Choose "Grandparents (father's side)" or "Grandparents (mother's side)". The card then calls the baby their grandson or granddaughter and names the parents on the next line.
Do we have to put the baby's name on the card?
No. Many parents announce the name only at the ceremony. Tick "Keep the name a surprise" and the card says the name will be announced there. After the ceremony, untick it and download again to send the name. There is no extra charge.
What is barasala?
Barasala is the Telugu name for the naming ceremony held with the cradle rite: the baby is put in the cradle and given a name. Choose "Naming + cradle" and type "Barasala" as the ceremony's name, and it prints on the card.
How do you find the baby's birth star?
From the date and time of birth, and for a baby born outside India, the country, for its time zone. The birth star (nakshatra) is where the moon was at that moment, and the rashi is its sign. If you don't know the birth time, we check whether the star changed that day; if it did, we ask whether the baby was born before or after that time.
On which day is the naming ceremony held?
Usually on the 11th or 12th day after birth. It can also be held later, on a muhurat your purohit chooses. We don't suggest dates: ask your purohit, or tell us and purohits in your city will call you.
Does the card cost anything?
Nothing: making the card and downloading the WhatsApp image and the print PDF are always free, with no sign-up. The card carries a small purohit.app line at the foot; removing it is a small fee of ₹10, paid once for this card by UPI, card or netbanking, which helps us keep Purohit.app running.
Is my baby's photo uploaded?
No. The card is made on your phone, and the photo and the names you type never leave it. To find the birth star we send only the birth date and time (and the time zone, for a baby born abroad) to our calculator, and we do not store them. To fill in the date line we send the ceremony's date, time and city, which we do not keep either.
Can I get it printed?
Yes. "Download PDF (for printing)" gives a 5 x 7 inch card with 3 mm extra on each side for trimming. Ask the shop to print it at actual size on card paper and trim it to 5 x 7 inches. Made it on your phone? Download the PDF there and send it to yourself on WhatsApp or email to print from a computer.
