Questions people ask

Seemantham, godh bharai, valaikappu, dohale jevan: what is the difference?

They are regional names for blessing a mother-to-be in the later months of pregnancy. Seemantham is the South Indian form, with a puja by a purohit, and is often combined on the same day with the valaikappu, the Tamil bangle ceremony. Godh bharai is the North Indian "filling of the lap" with fruit, sweets and gifts. Dohale jevan is the Marathi name and shaadh the Bengali one. Choose the name your family uses; the card's title and sentences use it.

In which month is it held?

Most communities hold it in the seventh or eighth month, many preferring an odd month; the Bengali shaadh is a ninth-month observance. Your purohit picks the day, and the card never needs to say the month.

Who sends the invitation, her husband's parents or her parents?

Either, and often each family holds a function of its own. Choose who is inviting and the wording follows ("their daughter-in-law" or "their daughter"). If both families hold a function, make one card for each.

Can the card show a separate ladies' function time?

Yes. Add it as a row in the programme, for example "Valaikappu (ladies)" with its time, and it prints under the muhurat.

What does it cost, and can I change it later?

Nothing: making the card and downloading the WhatsApp image and the print PDF are always free, with no sign-up. The card carries a small purohit.app line at the foot; removing it is a small fee of ₹10, paid once for this card by UPI, card or netbanking, which helps us keep Purohit.app running.
