Griha Pravesh Invitation Message: What to Write + Samples
A griha pravesh invitation has to tell guests three things clearly: that you are entering your new home, the date and muhurat time they must come, and how to find a house they have never seen. The wording around those three is traditional and short. Below is what goes on the card, in order, with complete samples in English, Hindi and Kannada, a WhatsApp message to send with it, and the date mistake that sends guests a day early when the muhurat falls before sunrise. Our griha pravesh invitation maker builds the card from wording like this and writes the tithi line for your date.
What to write, in order
- A line to Ganesha or to your family deity, at the top.
- The title: Griha Pravesh, Gruhapravesam or Vastu Shanti in English, गृहप्रवेश निमंत्रण in Hindi, ನೂತನ ಗೃಹಪ್ರವೇಶೋತ್ಸವ ಆಹ್ವಾನ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ in Kannada, and புதுமனை புகுவிழா (puthumanai puguvizha, "entering the new home") on Tamil cards.
- One sentence saying you are entering your new home with the blessings of the elders, and inviting the guest to come with their family.
- The date and the muhurat time, with the traditional tithi line if you want it.
- The pujas of the day and the meal, in time order. A Satyanarayan puja on the same day is a common pairing.
- The new address, written the way a driver needs it, with a map link or a QR code.
- Your names at the end, with a phone number if you like.
All the samples below use Saturday 12 December 2026 at 7:45 am, which falls inside that day's griha pravesh window for New Delhi (7:04 am to 2:06 pm), Mumbai (7:02 am to 2:06 pm) and Bengaluru (6:32 am to 2:06 pm).

When the elders of the house are the ones inviting, the sentence becomes "With the blessings of our elders, our family is entering our new home. We request your presence and blessings, with your family." The card then closes with "With best compliments from", their names and "and the Iyer family". A no-gifts line, if you want one, reads "Presents in the form of blessings only."

The doha, the opening sentence and the meal line come from a Hindi housewarming template; स्नेह भोज ... आपके आगमन तक says the meal is served from 11 am until you arrive. When the elders invite for the whole house, the closing heading becomes निमंत्रक and a last line, एवं समस्त गुप्ता परिवार, is added. The शुभ मिती line is optional and is written the way Hindi wedding cards write it; our guide to Hindi wedding card matter explains the month and the samvat in it.

The long opening is the date as Kannada cards give it: Shalivahana Shaka 1948, the Parabhava samvatsara, Margashirsha Shukla Tritiya, Saturday, and the Dhanu lagna in which the 7:45 am muhurat falls (Dhanu lagna rises from 6:53 to 9:00 am that morning in Bengaluru). The request after it is from a printed housewarming card from Sira, and it says "the house we have newly built": right for a house you built, wrong for a flat bought from a builder, so have that phrase changed if yours is a flat. When you serve a meal, cards end the request with ನಮ್ಮ ಆತಿಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿ ಕೋರುತ್ತೇವೆ (please accept our hospitality) and add a ಭೋಜನ line with the time.
If the muhurat is before sunrise, print the morning guests must come
Griha pravesh muhurats often fall in the small hours. A panchang counts a day from one sunrise to the next, so a muhurat before sunrise belongs to the previous day, and muhurat lists print it under that date. Our New Delhi list for 2026 shows Saturday 21 November with a window of 4:56 am to 5:54 am, 22 Nov. By the clock that is Sunday morning, and a card that copies "Saturday 21 November, 4:56 am" sends every guest a day early. It is also why the slot is allowed at all: Sunday is a prohibited weekday for griha pravesh, but at 4:56 am the panchang day is still Saturday.
The same line in the list can mean different mornings in different cities. In Mumbai the window is the same 4:56 to 5:54 am on 22 November, while in Bengaluru it is 6:21 to 6:31 am on Saturday 21 November itself. It happens again on 11 December 2026, where the New Delhi window runs from 3:04 am to 7:04 am, 12 Dec: by the clock, Saturday 12 December.
So print the calendar date and weekday of the morning, and mark the time as early morning: "Sunday, 22 November 2026, 4:56 am (early morning)". Tamil housewarming cards write such times as காலை, morning. If your purohit says "Saturday night, 4:56", he means the same moment, the night after Saturday, which is Sunday on the calendar. If the card carries the traditional date line, let him write it and keep the calendar date beside it, because a panchang changes the weekday at sunrise too, and its line can still name Saturday for a muhurat at 4:56 am on Sunday. The maker asks which morning you mean whenever the time you enter is before sunrise.
Put the address and a map on the card
Guests have never been to a new home, so the address matters more here than on any other card. Write it the way a driver would need it: flat or house number, building or society, road, area and city.
- Add the location as a QR code. Take the link from Google Maps: find the house, tap Share, then Copy link. A location pin shared in WhatsApp is not a link you can paste, so it cannot go on a printed card.
- Print the code dark on a light background, with a clear margin around it. A gold or inverted code may look smarter, but some phone scanners cannot read light-on-dark codes.
- Keep it about 2 cm wide on a printed card, and large on the phone image: WhatsApp shrinks and recompresses pictures, and a small code can stop scanning.
- Test it by scanning a printed copy, and a copy forwarded on WhatsApp, before you send it to everyone.
- Send the map link as its own message after the card as well, so guests can tap it; a printed card has no link at all.
The maker turns your Google Maps link into a QR code, printed dark on a light tile with the address.
A WhatsApp message to send with the card
Namaste! We are moving into our new home, and the griha pravesh is on Saturday, 12 December 2026, with the muhurat at 7:45 am, a Satyanarayan puja at 10:30 am and lunch after it. Please come with your family. The card is attached, and the location follows.

The date, the puja and a purohit
If the date is not fixed yet, our griha pravesh muhurat list for 2026 and the list for 2027 are the place to start: there is no griha pravesh muhurat in October 2026, and the season opens on 11 November, or on 20 November for stricter traditions. The griha pravesh ceremony guide covers what happens on the day, and the Satyanarayan puja guide the puja that often follows it. When the date is fixed, you can request a purohit for the griha pravesh, and the invitation maker will make the card in English, Hindi or Kannada.
How we verify: dates and muhurat timings in our guides are cross-checked against the panchang before publishing, and practical details - samagri, durations, dakshina ranges - reflect real bookings on Purohit.app. Traditions vary by community; your purohit's guidance prevails.
